K Block Now Available for the Uniden R1 and R3, Firmware 1.50

Firmware 1.50 was just released for the Uniden R1 and Uniden R3. This brings a few small, but helpful changes.

Uniden R3 running firmware 1.50

K Block (R1 and R3)

The biggest change is the addition of the K Block feature to help filter out Honda and Acura BSM’s. When activated, this feature filters out all radar K band signals between 24.194 – 24.204 GHz, including those from Hondas and Acuras.

This feature first came out for the Uniden R7 and is now available for the R1 and the R3 as well.

RLC / Speed Camera Alert Improvements (R3 only)

When a redlight camera or speed camera and a radar signal are being detected at the same time, the radar alert is now displayed after the RLC / speedcam alert.

This is a bug fix for the R3. It used to skip the radar alert when detecting a RLC or speedcam and radar alert simultaneously. Now it will alert you to the radar signal after the RLC / speedcam alert.

The R3’s RLC / speedcam database has also been updated to version 19/04/02.

I am not getting my computer to recognize the R3. Just says searching. Using the same cable as last time. Any ideas?

try download the drivers. Happened to me to… https://www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

unzip to desktop and force driver update to the root folder that you unzipped

Any idea of when the Automatic Hwy/City feature will be added to the R3/R1 that the R7 has?

    1. What do you mean about the R7? I’m not aware of such a feature in the Unidens.

Thanks again for notifying us about update.
I have noticed that when u first plug in USB into computer is when you need to update and download. If you wait it seems that software reverts back to search mode.

Really I could have swore I read that the R7 had that feature… To be honest I have read and watched so many of your reviews and videos, I am sure the OVERLOAD is to blame LOL!)

  1. That feature doesn’t exist in any Uniden detectors. It does exist in some newer Escort, Beltronics, and Radenso detectors.

I have the R7, this feature is great but really waiting for the Auto GPS enabled false signal blocking. It was my understanding that the patent on this with Escord was expiring last month.

Try to reconnect cable at the detector side, not at the PC side. 🙂

I was having the same problems. Once I manually went and downloaded the drivers, the r3 finally showed as connected.

I FINALLY got it to work. Manually downloaded everything. Had to go find the download file and insert it. Sure was a lot easier to update my Escort. Uniden could sure make it easier to do this.

    Hey Everyone,

I have had my R3 for about 2 years and it still detects radar, but the sound does not work all of a sudden. It has the latest firmware on it. Does anyone have a solution?

    Thanks!

    Try a Factory Reset.

I tried that and the sound still doesn’t work. Should I open it up, or am I going to have to send it in?

just by chance and a last ditch effort. The R3 has an audio out jack on the side… Try plugging in a headphone and see if you can hear sound through that. If you hear sound, unplug it and try it again and see if it works.

Any idea when the MAC firmware for the new version will be released?

    • David Batey on August 15, 2019 at 7:10 am

Henrique-I believe you can use the previous release MAC downloader and just extract the .BINs from the windows version and install them that way.

The sound does work when I plug in headphones. Does this mean the external speaker is broken?

    1. It very well might. Please reach out to Uniden for technical support and repair issues.

i downloaded the drivers and the firmware but the firmware that was downloaded to my PC is an adobe document and not a .bin file and will not open. Is there additional software i need to load and/or how do i upload the adobe file into the R3

Here’s a feature I’d like on the R3: Automatic switching to Highway Mode above a chosen speed and automatic switching back to City mode below that speed. Seems like it should be doable with a firmware modification.

    1. It would, but I believe Escort has a patent on that feature. That said, Radenso does that, but I’m not sure if they need to pay licensing royalties to do so.

Same question as Dave. My wife is a computer genius and just told me the idiocy of placing new firmware on R1. I have a golf garman and all so easy when having an apple computer . We did install the new 1.48 but it took real computer savvy to do so. We also want to do the 1.50 but no way to do so unless we have another non apple computer. Not good on part of those designing all. Shouldn’t have to take up all of apple.

    1. There’s a simple and admittedly silly solution. Download the 1.48 Mac update software. Then download the 1.50 Windows update software. Use the 1.50 firmware file and load it into the Mac software you have installed and it’ll update your detector just fine.

I have had my R1 for approximately 6 months and it has not fail me yet, but recently on my last trip i noticed for some reason it does not beep and it seems to be stuck in mute mode. I have done a factory reset and plug it back in and no sound whatsoever. Even when i did a self test no sound at all. What could it be and what can i do?

I am assuming I have to have a Windows or a Apple to update my R3? I wish the would would move into the modern era and support Chrome/Chromebooks. I am trying to think if the last time I used a Windows computer…. 2015… Maybe 2016.

    ????

I really wish they had support for Chrome, but guess not.

On the series side I still have a R3 I absolutely love and have not issues with other than trying to update to the latest version of the software. I have always used the same computer (a friend’s) who has a Windows 10. It has all the latest updates. Not had any reinstalls or any thing out of the ordinary issues. Had a a few driver issues with older devices I have helped him with.

But I have tried the normal update process and a couple of other things to get it see it and update…. Still no luck.

    Any thoughts?

    Have a great day!
